First Digital Nomad Summit in Alicante
Despite being a smaller city than other digital nomad hubs in Spain, like Barcelona or even Valencia, Alicante has slowly become a popular destination for digital nomads. It is one of the favorite cities of expats, according to an article published by Forbes, and is no longer a destination only for tourists or retirees.
Aware of this shift in visitors, the city has actively begun to promote Alicante as a destination for digital nomads, for example by hosting events focusing on remote work. The last one, II Congreso Internacional “Alicante: Destino de Teletrabajo y Nómadas Digitales”, took place in November 2024. It was supported by the city council, which is interested in attracting more digital nomads, drivers of innovation and creativity.
However, there has not been an event yet organized by digital nomads themselves. Maria Cuesta and Jean-Baptiste Michel, co-founders of the Nomadway app, wanted to change this and started planning an event “from digital nomads for digital nomads”: the Alicante Nomad Summit. They put together a team with three other digital nomads: Fabian, an architect and graphic designer from Germany, Emiliya, a content strategy expert from Bulgaria, and Johanna, an editor and communications expert with German and Chilean roots. This international and highly motivated team shares the same goal: growing the digital community in Alicante.
The Alicante Nomad Summit, taking place on April 4th and 5th, will offer digital nomads from Alicante and other parts of the world the chance to connect and join inspiring talks and fun activities. Main topics of the summit will be sustainability and the future of work. Seasoned speakers will give insights into their expertise and nomad lifestyle. Panels will allow for lively discussions around these topics.
With a blend of business-related networking and social activities like Mediterranean dinners or Flamenco, the event will offer a glimpse into the appeal of Alicante for digital nomads. “We have coworking spaces, restaurants with delicious food and beautiful beaches here, so it’s the ideal location for such an event”, says Maria, who is from Valencia but has been living in Alicante for the past years. “There is a perfect quality of life here - the Mediterranean climate allows you to be active all year long”, adds Jean-Baptiste, who is a passionate beach volleyball and tennis player.
